Heritage project underway

Our heritage project, ‘Looking to the past - Linking to the future’, is off to a great start.

Both our art and photography classes started this week and everyone to was keen to get involved.

The aim of these session is to create a portfolio of work that will tie in with the heritage of our location here, while giving people the opportunity to learn new skills and develop their confidence with trying new things. It will also increase their social skills and interpersonal skills while working with others.

As part of the project, we have our ‘Trip down memory lane’ next Wednesday (21st Feb) for local residents to join us for a cake, a cuppa and an opportunity to share their memories of the Woodhall and Parklea area from times gone by. This will allow us to collate some oral history and give clients at Parklea and opportunity to learn about the past.

Everyone is welcome between 1.30 pm and 3 pm on Wednesday afternoon to tell tales about time spent in the area, in days done by. Please let us know if you wish to attend by calling 01475 744516.

Yesterday we also had our first outing to the James Watt Institution in Greenock to explore our history a little bit more. This gave a small groups of clients the opportunity to engage with Inverclyde’s local history, as well as explore some of the interesting exhibits at the museum. We included a visit to the reference library to look at some old photographs of Port Glasgow and the group thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon out. Be sure to look out for us in the Tele.

The project is being made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

So thank you to all the lottery players.
